The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
Season 1 presents a large cast of characters residing in Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with songs detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 differ greatly, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the showrunner commented recently. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some really amazing disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans make a prediction grid about season 2," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
